Apart Symposium Call for Abstract

Call for Abstract

As apart Art Association, we are delighted to invite you to the 4th International Short Film, Video and Photography Symposium, which will be held at Kadıköy Barış Manço Cultural Center on October 23-24-25-26, 2026 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey, General Directorate of Cinema and Istanbul Gelisim University.

Interest in alternative modes of production centered on short film, video, and photography has been steadily intensifying in recent years among academics, artists, and audiences alike. These fields stand out as spaces where the pressures of industrial standardization are less dominant, allowing for experimental, speculative, and at times provocative forms of creation to emerge. For this very reason, they represent rare grounds of production where perception can be engaged more directly, and where forms of expression with greater conceptual depth can evolve.

Our motivation to once again organize the International Short Film, Video, and Photography Symposium stems precisely from this context. We position ourselves critically against authority, scientific hierarchy, and all forms of power relations that permeate everyday life and constrain fundamental creative acts such as thinking, inspiration, and production. This stance encourages us to cultivate a space for liberating and pluralistic creation, bringing together diverse perspectives, interpretations, and critiques. We warmly invite everyone who wishes to contribute to this shared ground to join the symposium.

As emphasized in the paragraphs above, our symposium aims to produce thoughts, comments and criticism through short films, videos and photographs. Apart from these fields, the other titles determined as the subject of our symposium are as follows:

Video-Art

New Media

Digital Gaming

Animation

Documentary

VR

New Media Documentary

Non Narrative Film

Medium-Length Film

Experimental Films

AI

The language of the symposium is Turkish and English. The deadline for abstract or video essay submission is June 15, 2026. Abstracts will be published in the abstracts e-book after the symposium and video essays will be published on the symposium's YouTube channel. The submitted and peer-reviewed full texts will be published as an e-journal.

We wish you an inspiring symposium...
